Now is the best time for 30 years to buy property - according to "expert"
A report on the Save Borrow Spend website claims that now is the best time to be buying property in 30 years.
This does seem to be a sweeping statement - to say the least! The best time to leave the London property market was almost certainly a year ago when prices peaked in many areas. All well and good if you were emigrating (and quite a few did!) but what about the rest of us?
Firstly for those buying under 175k, the stamp duty holiday eases the pain of moving - but if stamp duty thresholds were linked historically to a UK property price index we'd see that it isn't that generous after all.
For buyers moving a couple of streets away trading up or down, now is a good time to be moving. There is more choice of property to sell tahn we've seen in several years. Also it shouldn't matter if you take less on your own property sale if you're paying less on your new property. For those trading up its actually helpful. The difference in prices will be less - as will the mortgage!
