Golborne Road property takes off as buyers migrate north
The former ugly sister of Portobello Road is the new Cinderella in North Kensington. With the increase in rents across Notting Hill, many shops and restaurants are looking to move further north where there is still the feel of the 'Old' Notting Hill to emulate the success of the likes of Rellik the vintage clothes emporium and the delightful Lisboa Pâtisserie. Golborne Road is moving up market, following in the footsteps of it achingly fashionable neighbour, Portobello Road, where Prada handbags have already replaced the tie die of 20 - 30 years ago.
It's western skyine is dominated by Erno Goldfinger's once notorious Trellick Tower, now a London icon and tribute to modernism, that was a nightmare for its residents untill proper management and security were introduced comparatively recently.
Following recent successful sales on and around the Portobello Road we are receiving
many more requests for freehold valuations from owners in the area. One building under offer at the moment received multiple offers, our clients were almost spoilt for choice!
Not everyone is pleased of course. Golborne Road has been the last outpost of bohemian Notting Hill (often trustafarian) living. Many Notting Hill residents, have come to see the street as their locale, with a character of its own reminiscent of 1980s Portobello. There's a great food and vegetable market and for the time being, at least, the street remains refreshingly free of the anonymous high street chains that increasingly charecterise most of London. Rising rents and property prices seem inevitable.
